Beech Plantation

The Beech Plantation is a proper woodland walk rather than a formal attraction with gates and opening hours. You'll find yourself among tall beech trees that create a cathedral-like canopy, especially lovely in autumn when the leaves turn copper and gold. It's the sort of place where an hour disappears without you noticing, though walkers might easily stretch that to two hours if they explore the full extent of the woodland.

The main appeal here is straightforward: shade, shelter, and decent footpaths through mature woodland. History types will appreciate that beech plantations like this one shaped the Cotswolds landscape centuries ago, though there's nothing here that screams "heritage site". Families with younger children might find it a bit samey after a while - there are no play areas or viewpoints to break things up, just trees and more trees.

Its strength is as a morning walk before heading into Chipping Campden, which sits just a few miles away and has far more to occupy a day. If you're staying at one of the nearby parks - Campden Yurts or Broadway Caravan and Motorhome Club are both close enough - this woodland offers a welcome stretch of the legs without needing to drive anywhere. It's free and unrestricted, which makes it ideal if you just want to escape the camper or caravan for a bit.

Best visited in spring or autumn. Summer can feel a touch oppressive under that thick canopy. Go early to avoid any crowds, though realistically you're unlikely to encounter many people at all.
