National Trust - Dover's Hill

The views from Dover's Hill are properly spectacular, and on a clear day you can see all the way across the Vale of Evesham to the Malvern Hills. It's a National Trust-owned stretch of open common just outside Chipping Campden, and it's the kind of place that rewards a decent walk. The hill itself is part of the Cotswold Edge, so you get that dramatic drop-off feeling with genuine teeth to the landscape.

What makes it work is the simplicity of it. No visitor centre, no gift shop - just grassland, footpaths, and proper views. You'll spot hang-gliders launching from here on good days, which is oddly compelling to watch. Families with capable walkers will get something real out of the effort, but it's not a quick tick-box visit. Allow 90 minutes minimum if you want to do the circuit properly. History buffs should know this is where the Cotswold Olympic Games were held from the early 1600s - basically a proto-sporting festival that locals took seriously.

The walk itself isn't relentless, but it's steady enough that very small children might struggle. Late afternoon light is best if you can swing it. Free to access, naturally.

If you're camping at Campden Yurts or staying nearby at one of the caravan parks dotted around Broadway, Dover's Hill is an absolute no-brainer for an afternoon. It's close enough for a short trip but far enough removed that you actually feel like you've gone somewhere. The Cotswolds can feel crowded, but up here it stays quiet.
