Biddulph Grange Country Park

The moment you walk into Biddulph Grange Country Park, you're struck by how much woodland they've managed to squeeze into the place. It's proper moorland terrain - rolling hills, open grassland, and dense patches of forest that feel genuinely wild despite being just outside Stoke-on-Trent. The main draw is the walking. There are decent trails crisscrossing the 250 acres, ranging from gentle loops round the perimeter to more demanding climbs across the higher ground. On a clear day the views across North Staffordshire are genuinely worth the effort.

Walkers will get the most from this. It's the sort of place where you spend a solid two to three hours without checking your watch. Families with older kids will find enough to keep them entertained - there's space to run about, streams to jump over, and the occasional surprise of stumbling onto the old stone structures dotted through the park. Younger children might lose interest after an hour unless they're the proper outdoorsy sort.

What makes it particularly useful is its location on the caravan circuit around Stoke. Sky View Caravan Park sits less than a mile away, and Castle Camping is barely two miles further, making Biddulph Grange an easy add-on to a week exploring the wider area. It costs nothing to access - the park is free - and there's decent parking at the entrance. Go early on weekends if you want to avoid the dog-walkers. Spring and autumn are the best times, when the woods have colour and the paths aren't either baking or waterlogged.
