Big Log

You'll find this fallen giant sprawled across the landscape near Beverley - a massive log that's become something of a local curiosity. It's the sort of thing that stops you mid-walk: you round a corner and there it is, this enormous piece of timber just lying there, weathered and solid. Whether it's a deliberately positioned art piece or simply a piece of local history that's taken on mythical proportions over the years isn't entirely clear, but that ambiguity is rather part of its charm.

The Big Log works best as a walking destination rather than a standalone trip. It's the kind of spot you'd stumble upon while exploring the footpaths around East Yorkshire, and it rewards a bit of curiosity - kids especially seem to get a kick out of clambering over it or just taking in how impressively massive it actually is. Don't expect facilities or visitor infrastructure; this is proper countryside stuff, which means you need reasonable shoes and a willingness to navigate the lanes around Beverley.

If you're camping at any of the nearby parks - Butt Farm is closest at just 1.5 miles away, whilst High Farm Holiday Park sits at 4.9 miles and gets excellent reviews - the Big Log makes a decent addition to a day's exploring. It's the sort of detour that works well as part of a longer walk rather than something you'd drive all the way out for on its own. Give yourself an hour or so if you're combining it with the surrounding countryside, which is genuinely worth the wander.
