Climbing the 371-metre summit doesn't exactly set the pulse racing, but Blakeley Bank offers something rather special for those willing to make the modest ascent. The views across the Staffordshire countryside are properly rewarding, stretching towards Stoke-on-Trent and beyond on clear days.

This is walking country rather than family day-out territory. The paths can be muddy after rain, and there's nothing here to entertain restless children beyond the satisfaction of reaching the top. Serious hikers will appreciate it as part of a longer route, though it's hardly challenging enough to warrant a dedicated expedition.

From holiday parks like Stone Wall Farm CL or Springfields Countryside Caravan and Camping Park, it makes for a decent morning's exercise before exploring the area's more substantial attractions. The summit itself is unremarkable - no dramatic cliff edges or ancient monuments - just honest Midlands countryside at its most unadorned.

Allow an hour and a half return from the nearest parking, though finding that parking might prove trickier than the walk itself. Best tackled in dry conditions when the ground's firm underfoot. It's free, obviously, being little more than a hill with a footpath, but the lack of facilities means bringing your own refreshments is essential.
