Blisland Community

The church at Blisland sits in one of Cornwall's quieter villages, about four miles south of Bodmin, and it's worth the small detour if you're camping or touring in the area. St Protus and St Hyacinth - yes, really - is a proper medieval church with some genuinely striking features inside, particularly the ornate Victorian rood screen that someone spent an awful lot of time getting just right.

What strikes you first is how intact it all feels. The church dates back to the 15th century, though parts are older, and it's been cared for in a way that doesn't feel fussy or over-restored. You can wander in and spend twenty minutes taking in the stonework and stained glass, or linger longer if medieval churches are your thing. No crowds, which is refreshing.

It's free to visit, and the village itself is proper quiet - the kind of place where you remember what silence sounds like. If you're staying at Camp De Lank (just a mile or so away) or Rosebud Farm, this works as a gentle morning walk or a break from the campsite routine. Kids won't be glued to it for hours, mind you, but families interested in local history will find it worthwhile.

Go on a clear day if you can - the light through the windows makes a real difference. It's not a destination in itself, but it slots nicely into a broader explore of the Bodmin area.
