Boiler Slab

Walking along the Gower coastline west of Swansea, you'll stumble upon this curious geological formation that earned its name from the flat, slab-like rocks resembling the bottom of an old boiler. The viewpoint sits dramatically on the clifftops, offering sweeping views across Swansea Bay and the Bristol Channel on clear days.

Families with older children who don't mind a proper walk will love this spot - the coastal path approach is well worth the effort, though it's not suitable for pushchairs. Photography enthusiasts get fantastic shots here, particularly at sunset when the light catches the water just right.

Being on public coastal land, there's no admission fee and you can visit any time of year. Allow at least an hour for the walk and time to appreciate the views, though many people combine it with a longer coastal ramble. The rocks themselves are fascinating - geologists reckon they're ancient limestone formations worn smooth by centuries of Atlantic weather.
