Long Hole Cave

Dark limestone passages snake through the cliffs above Rhossili Bay, offering proper cave exploring without needing a helmet or headtorch. Long Hole Cave cuts deep into the Gower Peninsula's coastline, and while it's not the longest cave system you'll find, it's accessible enough for families with steady-footed children over about eight years old.

The entrance sits partway down the cliff face - you'll need to scramble a bit to reach it, but nothing too hairy. Once inside, the main passage stretches for roughly 300 metres before narrowing considerably. Most visitors turn back well before the tight bits, having had their fill of underground adventure.

Walkers tackling the Gower coastal path often pop in for a quick explore, though it's worth allowing at least an hour if you want to venture beyond the entrance chamber. The cave stays cool year-round, so bring layers even on warm summer days.

Families staying at nearby sites like Gower Holiday Village or Pitton Cross will find this makes a decent rainy-day alternative to beach time. Just don't expect vast cathedral chambers - this is intimate cave crawling rather than underground sightseeing.
