Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre

The 1485 Battle of Bosworth changed everything - Richard III lost his crown and his life on this Leicestershire field, and the Tudor era began. The Heritage Centre sits right where it happened, just outside Nuneaton, and it's a properly immersive place if you care about English history at all.

You get the visitor centre itself with displays covering the battle, the armies, and the key players. There's a decent film that sets the scene without being cheesy, and tactile exhibits that work well if you're visiting with kids. But the real draw is walking the battlefield itself - the audio trail guides you round the actual ground where thousands fought, and it genuinely hits different when you're standing on the slope where the outcome was decided.

History enthusiasts will spend two to three hours here easily. Families with older children will find it engaging rather than overwhelming. Younger kids might flag after the indoor bit unless you make the walk an adventure. Allow a full morning or early afternoon.

If you're based at one of the nearby parks - Bosworth Caravan Park or Bosworth Lakeside Lodges are both within walking distance - this is an obvious stop. It works perfectly as part of a wider Midlands trip taking in castles and stately homes. The outdoor element means dress for the weather; it can be bleak out there even when the forecast says otherwise.

Worth the trip if battles matter to you. Less compelling if you're just after a casual day out.
