Briery Park Copse

A proper woodland walk tucked just outside Wedmore, Briery Park Copse is the sort of place locals know about and visitors stumble upon by accident. It's a modest forest - nothing vast or dramatic - but that's rather the point. You get shade, birdsong, and the quiet satisfaction of walking under proper tree cover without queuing for a car park.

The copse itself is straightforward: a mix of woodland trails that let you wander for anything between twenty minutes and an hour depending on how lost you want to get. It's decent for families with younger kids who need a break from open moorland, and dog walkers seem to treat it like their personal kingdom. The Levels around here are flat and frankly a bit bleak in patches, so reaching this bit of genuine forest feels like a small discovery.

Honestly, it won't occupy a whole day. But if you're staying at Castle Farm Campsite just down the road, or any of the other camps scattered around the area - Laurel Farm Glamping, Bobsfield, The Hideout - it's a proper little interlude between breakfast and afternoon plans. The walk from Wedmore itself is doable if you're up for a trek, though driving saves the legs.

Go early if you can. The light filters through differently in the morning, and you'll actually hear the wood rather than other people. Bring wellies if there's been rain - Somerset woodland drains about as well as a sieve.
