Brooklands Wood

Walking into Brooklands Wood feels like stepping back about fifty years. This Kent forest, just outside Edenbridge, is the sort of place where you half expect to bump into someone's grandfather on a Sunday stroll - and you probably will. It's genuinely quiet, which these days counts as remarkable.

The woodland itself is straightforward: mature trees, decent paths, the occasional fallen log that's been there long enough to have proper moss on it. You're not getting dramatic vistas or dramatic anything, really. What you get is the sound of birds, dappled light, and the kind of air that actually feels clean. Families with younger walkers will manage it fine - there's nothing technical about the terrain, though it can get muddy after rain, which is half the charm.

Allow a good hour minimum if you're actually walking rather than just poking about for twenty minutes. Bring wellies in winter. There's no visitor centre, no cafe, no facilities that I'm aware of, so come prepared.

For a park holiday around here - and there are several glamping and caravan options within striking distance like Long Acres or Luna Domes - Brooklands Wood works as a morning activity before heading elsewhere. It's not a destination in itself, but it's genuinely nice, and sometimes that's exactly what you need. Peak season doesn't really apply; go whenever the weather's decent.
