Gilridge Wood

The woodland around Edenbridge is decent walking territory, and Gilridge Wood is the sort of place that rewards a proper explore rather than a quick lap. It's a decent-sized forest with enough paths threading through to keep you occupied for an hour or two without feeling like you're going in circles. The trees are mixed - nothing exotic, just good English woodland with patches where the light breaks through properly, especially in spring when the undergrowth hasn't completely taken over.

This is a walker's wood rather than a destination attraction. Families with kids will get something out of it - there's space to let them burn off energy without worrying they'll wander far off the main routes - but don't expect play equipment or picnic facilities. If you're into spotting birds or just want a quiet bit of forest without crowds, you'll do alright here. The paths are manageable underfoot most of the time, though they can get muddy after rain.

It's close enough to Edenbridge that you could easily slot it into a morning before heading elsewhere. If you're staying at one of the nearby glamping spots like Luna Domes or Long Acres, it's worth a wander, particularly if the weather's decent. Give yourself two to three hours if you want to explore without rushing. Free to access, no facilities that I'm aware of, so come prepared with water and proper footwear. Best visited in autumn or early spring when the wood feels less claustrophobic and the midges aren't out in force.
