Broomscot Common

A proper stretch of open heathland that feels worlds away from the manicured parks you'd normally expect in Suffolk. Broomscot Common sits east of Diss and offers the kind of wide-open space that reminds you why people bother with the Norfolk-Suffolk border country in the first place.

It's basically heath and scrub - the sort of place where you can actually walk without bumping into gift shops or car parks every five minutes. The views roll on quietly across relatively flat terrain, which means walkers can cover decent ground without the knee-punishing gradients you'd find further west. If you've got kids who need to burn off energy, they'll do it here. If you're after a spot where the landscape hasn't been entirely smoothed out for public consumption, this delivers.

The common works well as a pit stop if you're based at Arthur's Retreat motorhome site just four miles away - close enough for a half-day excursion without needing to pack up camp. Bring proper boots if the weather's been wet; it can get boggy. There's no obvious visitor infrastructure that I could find, so it's genuinely undeveloped. That's either the whole point or slightly frustrating depending on what you came for.

Worth the detour if you're chasing authentic East Anglian landscape rather than another honeypot spot. Less thrilling than it sounds, but honest.
