Burnt Hill

The walk up Burnt Hill rewards you with views across Bracknell Forest that justify the modest climb. It's not dramatic - this is the South East, after all - but on a clear day you can see proper distance, and the woodland around you is genuinely pleasant rather than the overgrown stuff you sometimes get.

The peak itself is straightforward to reach from Chertsey, which sits about three miles away. You're looking at an easy walk with decent footpaths, the sort of thing families with older kids or regular walkers tackle without breaking a sweat. There's nothing to "do" once you're up there beyond standing about and admiring the view, taking photos, maybe settling down with a flask. An hour there and back is plenty if you're just after the summit.

Where it works best is as part of a longer day wandering the forest trails around here. This isn't a standalone destination - you'd pair it with a walk through the wider area. The caravan parks near Chertsey, like Chertsey Caravan Park and Chertsey Camping and Caravanning Club Site just under four miles away, make decent bases if you're staying over. You get a proper forest walk without the petrol-guzzling drive to somewhere more famous.

Go when the weather's dry. Muddy paths up a hill aren't anyone's idea of fun, and the views disappear entirely if it's drizzly. Early autumn's excellent - fewer families about, and the light's lovely. Kids under ten will probably find it a bit dull once they've done the walk, so it's really for the adults who want a bit of fresh air and a gentle height gain.
