Bushy Grove

Walking into Bushy Grove feels like stepping back in time. This stretch of woodland near Dursley is proper old-growth forest, the kind where ancient oaks tower overhead and the ground squelches underfoot even in dry weather. You won't find manicured paths or information boards here - it's genuinely wild in the best sense.

The appeal is straightforward: if you want to disappear into genuine woodland for an hour or two, this delivers. Walkers get the most out of it, particularly those who like the idea of wandering without a fixed route. The canopy is thick enough that it feels isolated, even though Dursley is just down the road. Kids will enjoy the scrambling and log-hopping, though there's nothing to hold their attention if they want structure or facilities.

There's no visitor centre, no café, no car park that we can identify - you'll need to do your homework on access before heading out. It's the kind of place you stumble upon rather than plan around. If you're based at one of the nearby caravan parks - Tudor is closest at 2.8 miles - Bushy Grove makes a decent half-morning excursion, especially if the weather's holding. Don't expect drama or vistas. Expect moss, quiet, and the smell of damp earth. That's rather the point.
