Tintock Wood

Walking into Tintock Wood feels like stepping into something properly forgotten - the sort of place locals know about but tourists sail straight past on their way to the Cotswolds. It's a modest woodland near Dursley, nothing dramatic, but that's rather the point. The trees are dense enough to feel like a proper escape, with paths that wind through without requiring an OS map or hiking boots.

This is walker territory, frankly. You're looking at a solid hour if you take it slow, maybe forty minutes if you've got somewhere else to be. The wood doesn't demand anything of you - no entrance fees that we can find, no gift shop, no visitor centre. Just trees and peace. Good for clearing your head or burning off restless kids, though it won't keep them entertained for an entire day.

Stay at Tudor Caravan Park or Pepper Pot, both just over 3 miles away near Dursley, and you've got a straightforward walk or short drive. It slots nicely into a broader exploration of the area - Whitemead Forest Park is further afield at 6.3 miles if you want something with more facilities. The wood itself works best as a morning wander before you head to bigger attractions elsewhere in Gloucestershire.

Not somewhere to plan a day around, but if you're camping nearby and the weather's decent, it's worth a go. Real woodland, real quiet, real value.
