Chapel

Stone walls and a pitched roof is about all that remains of this old chapel on the Wiltshire outskirts near Salisbury. It's the kind of place you stumble upon rather than actively seek out - tucked away in countryside that feels properly removed from the main drag, yet only a short walk from the town itself.

What draws you here depends on what you're after. History buffs will appreciate the bones of the building and whatever fragments of its past still cling to the stonework. Walkers heading out from Salisbury often pass through this way, and it makes a decent waypoint on a longer route across the local footpaths. The setting is quiet enough that you won't find crowds, which is either excellent or slightly eerie depending on your mood.

Be honest though - this isn't a destination that will eat up an afternoon. Twenty minutes covers it properly. There's no café, no facilities, no interpretation boards explaining what you're looking at. You'll need to do your own detective work or arrive with local knowledge tucked under your belt.

Pair it with Salisbury's cathedral and the wider chalk downland landscape, and you've got something worth your time. On its own, it's more curiosity than must-see.
