The Cherry Orchard Nature Reserve sits within spitting distance of Canterbury, making it one of those convenient bolt-ons when you're based at Canterbury Lodges and Glamping or any of the nearby camping spots. It's a proper wetland site - the kind of place where the main draw is watching birds and spotting dragonflies rather than dramatic landscapes. Reeds, open water, and rough grassland dominate, and if you time it right during migration seasons, you'll see warblers and other passage birds that get birders genuinely excited.

This is absolutely a destination for nature enthusiasts and photographers, less so for young kids who'll run out of steam within half an hour unless they're already keen on spotting wildlife. Walkers will find it manageable - there are viewing areas and paths, though nothing particularly strenuous or long. The reserve operates on a fairly low-key basis, so check ahead for access details before you head out, as facilities tend to be minimal.

If you're staying at Nethergong Camping or one of the other parks within a few miles, it works as a morning's activity before heading into Canterbury itself for lunch and the cathedral.
