North Downs Way inlet

The North Downs Way inlet is one of those walking landmarks that doesn't announce itself loudly - you'll find it if you're properly exploring the Kent countryside rather than just passing through. It's a natural water feature where the chalk ridgeline of the North Downs meets the landscape in a way that's genuinely worth seeing on foot.

Seriously, this is a walker's thing. The North Downs Way itself is a 29-mile walking route that runs east-west across the region, and this inlet is a notable point along it. You're looking at the geological story of the area written into the land - the way water and time have carved through the terrain. It's the sort of spot that makes sense once you're actually there with a proper map, less so if you're expecting signage and a car park.

The Canterbury area has enough camping options within five miles - Canterbury Lodges and Glamping is barely four miles away, and Turners Folly Field offers glamping if you want something between a tent and a hotel room. This works well as part of a longer North Downs Way walk rather than a standalone destination. Allow a couple of hours if you're combining it with walking sections of the Way itself.

Best visited on a clear day when you can actually see across the terrain. It's free, naturally - it's a walk, not an attraction with a turnstile. Worth the detour if you're already hiking the North Downs Way. Less compelling if you're just driving through Canterbury looking for a quick photo stop.
