Families with older kids will get something from it; the spire's fame tends to grip children's imagination. Casual visitors might manage twenty minutes and call it done.

Admission is free, which is generous. The church sits right in Chesterfield town centre, making it dead easy to combine with a wander round the market or a coffee break. If you're based at one of the nearby glamping sites - Spire View Yurts is closest at just over 4 miles, or Poolsbrook Country Park's caravan facilities if you're after something more conventional - it's an obvious half-day outing from Dronfield. Best visited on a bright day when that weird spire actually casts decent shadows. Worth the detour if medieval architecture grabs you; less so if you're not that way inclined.
