Chiselbury Grove Woodland

The woodland around Chiselbury Grove, just outside Salisbury, is proper walking country - the sort of place where you can disappear into the trees for an hour and forget the market town exists at all. It's mixed woodland, nothing fancy, but that's rather the point. You get beech and oak mostly, with a decent carpet of bluebells if you time it right in spring.

There are decent trails threading through here, and the ground's well-drained so it's manageable even after rain. Families with kids will find enough to poke around - fallen logs to clamber over, streams to investigate - but it's not a destination in itself if you're after views or dramatic landscapes. Walkers heading out from Salisbury often loop through here as part of a longer ramble across the chalk downs. History types might appreciate that you're walking land that's been managed for centuries, though there's nothing you'd point at specifically.

It's free to access and you can potter about for as long as you fancy. An hour's a comfortable walk; two hours if you're being thorough. The beauty of it is proximity to Salisbury Campsite at Bake Farm - just 1.5 miles away - so it's an easy morning or afternoon outing from your caravan. Summerlands Caravan Park is also close enough at 3.7 miles if you're staying there. Frankly, it works best as part of a broader day out rather than a reason to visit Wiltshire on its own, but if you're camping nearby and the weather's decent, it fills a couple of hours nicely.
