Christ Church, Totland Bay

A Victorian church sitting quietly on the cliffs above Totland Bay, Christ Church is exactly the kind of place that rewards a wander if you're already in the area - don't drive across the island specially for it, but it's worth twenty minutes of your time. Built in 1862, it's all red and white brick with a modest interior that does the job without fuss. The real selling point is the position. You get decent views down to the bay and across the water, and on a clear day the light through the windows feels properly coastal.

For walkers holidaying at The Bay Colwell or Heathfield Farm Camping Park, it's a natural stop on a coastal ramble - you could take in the church, grab a bench outside, and keep moving along the clifftop path. Families won't lose their minds here, but it's the kind of peaceful spot that older kids (and parents needing five minutes of quiet) quite appreciate. History types will find the Victorian architecture competent rather than spectacular, and the churchyard has the usual gravestones if you're into that sort of genealogy hunting.

It's free to enter, though hours aren't fixed - arrive during daylight and hope the door's unlocked. Allocate half an hour maximum. The real draw is combining it with the surrounding coastal scenery and the nearby beaches rather than treating the church itself as a destination. If you're staying at Tapnell Farm or Tom's Eco Lodge slightly further inland, it's worth the short drive.
