Clee Hill

The summit of Clee Hill hits 540 metres and gives you proper views across Shropshire and into Wales on a clear day. The walk up takes about 45 minutes from the car park - it's steep in places but nothing technical, just a solid hike through moorland with gorse and heather. What strikes you first is how exposed it feels once you're on top. No shelter, wind whips through, but on a decent day the views are worth every step.

This is one for walkers and hill enthusiasts rather than casual strollers. Families with young kids might find the final push tedious, though older ones who enjoy a challenge will get a kick out of reaching the trig point. The whole thing is free and you can do it as part of a broader Shropshire Hills circuit - Ludlow's just 8 miles away and makes a good base for exploring the area.

Time it right and visit early morning when the light's golden and the crowds thin. Bring a decent map or download an offline route on your phone because the hill itself is fairly bare once you're up there. If you're staying nearby at Woodland Escapes or Churchbridge Glamping, it's an ideal half-day excursion that doesn't eat into your afternoon. Worth the detour if you're already in the Ludlow area, though don't expect crowds or facilities - it's just a proper Shropshire hill with its feet on the ground.
