Titterstone Clee

The summit of Titterstone Clee sits at 1,749 feet and you can see it from miles around - that distinctive bump on the Shropshire horizon with the radio masts on top. It's the second highest point in Shropshire, and the walk up from the Ludlow side is straightforward enough, though the final push gets a bit steep. The views from the top properly justify the effort. On a clear day you're looking south towards the Welsh border, north across the county, and west into Herefordshire. It's not the most remote peak you'll ever climb, but that's part of its appeal.

This works best for walkers rather than casual strollers. The summit's bare in winter and windy most of the year, but that's what makes it feel special - you've earned it. If you're staying at Woodland Escapes or Wheathill Touring Park nearby, it's an easy morning or afternoon mission. Families with older children will manage fine; anyone under eight will probably find the last bit tedious. Allow two to three hours from the car park, depending on your pace and how long you fancy sitting on top admiring the view.

The whole experience is free, obviously. Winter's quieter if you want solitude, but spring brings the gorse into flower and the visibility's usually better then. It's worth combining with a wander around Ludlow itself - the market town's only a few miles away and genuinely good for a couple of hours.
