Clock Tower

The Clock Tower stands in Aberystwyth like a period full stop at the end of a Victorian sentence. Built in the 1870s, it's the kind of landmark that marks time quite literally - though nowadays mostly tourists mark time standing in front of it taking photos. The tower itself is solid red brick, about 40 feet tall, and sits prominently enough that you'll spot it while wandering the seafront or poking around the town centre. You can't go inside - it's purely exterior viewing - but that's almost the point. Five minutes gets you the full experience: a look, a few snaps, maybe a read of the plaque if you're into the details.

Walkers and architecture enthusiasts will appreciate it more than anyone else. It's free to gawp at, and it makes a natural stopping point on a coastal wander rather than a destination in itself. Families with young kids won't linger long unless you spin them a story about how people told the time before phones existed.

The tower works best as part of a broader Aberystwyth amble. Combine it with a walk along the promenade toward the castle, or head inland toward the town's other Victorian attractions. If you're staying at Aberystwyth Holiday Village or Clarach Bay Holiday Village - both within spitting distance - it's worth a detour of 15 minutes rather than a special trip. For a proper seaside day, it's fine background interest rather than the main event.
