Cnoc Trail

The walk up Cnoc starts from Kyle of Lochalsh and climbs steeply through moorland that opens up gradually as you gain height. It's not a particularly long route, but don't let that fool you - the final push is genuinely steep, and loose ground means you'll want proper boots rather than trainers. The reward is a proper Highland vista stretching across to Skye and down towards Loch Alsh, with the mountains layered behind like something from a postcard you didn't know you needed.

This works best for reasonably fit walkers rather than families with young children. The terrain is rough and unforgiving in places, and there's little shelter or flat ground for breaks. Allow two to three hours return depending on your pace and how long you linger at the top. Go in good weather - the mist here can roll in fast and kill the views entirely.

If you're based at Reraig Caravan & Camping Skye, it's just over half an hour away by car, making it a solid morning or afternoon excursion without needing to commit to a full day trip. The walk stands alone well enough that you don't need to string together multiple attractions, though Kyle of Lochalsh itself merits a wander if you've got time to kill. The trail is free to access, and there's parking near the start point, though it can get busy in peak season.
