Coed Dolgarrog

The woodland around Coed Dolgarrog offers one of those walks where you actually feel like you're going somewhere rather than just trudging in circles. It's a proper forest - old-growth oak and birch - that slopes down to the Afon Dolgarrog stream, and the whole thing sits just south of Llanrwst in Conwy. You're looking at around an hour or so depending on how slowly you want to take it, moving through damp woodland with decent paths underfoot most of the way.

There's a old dam at the lower end, remnants of Victorian industry that adds a bit of texture to what could otherwise be a generic woodland ramble. It's the sort of place where you notice things - moss-covered stones, the sound of water properly loud in the background, occasional clearings where the light gets through.

Historically minded folk will get a kick from spotting the industrial heritage, though don't expect interpretation boards or visitor facilities. Families can manage it fine if their kids are reasonably steady on their feet; it's not technically demanding but it's not a pushchair route either. The main appeal is the walk itself rather than a specific destination.

Parking is basic and the whole thing feels wonderfully low-key. From here, you're well-placed for Erw Glas Glamping just 1.3 miles away, or any of the parks clustered around Llanrwst. It's the kind of spot that works best as a morning walk before your day properly starts - fresh, not crowded, genuinely nice.
