Coed Las Fach

Dense woodland stretches for miles around this working forest just outside Carmarthen, where the Forestry Commission manages mixed plantations of spruce, pine and native broadleaf trees. Coed Las Fach translates roughly as 'little green wood' - though there's nothing small about the scale of this landscape.

Walkers will find a network of forest tracks threading through the trees, though don't expect waymarked trails or visitor facilities. This is proper working woodland where you might encounter logging operations on weekdays. The paths can get muddy after rain, so decent boots are essential.

Families staying at nearby Pendine Sands Holiday Park or Big Barn Camping will find it a good spot for burning off energy, though younger children might get restless without clear routes to follow. Dog walkers have plenty of space to let their pets roam, assuming they're comfortable off-lead in woodland.

The forest sits between Carmarthen and the coast, making it a reasonable pit stop if you're heading to or from the beaches at Pendine. Access appears to be free, though parking arrangements aren't clear - you'll likely need to find roadside spots. Best treated as a bonus excursion rather than a main attraction, particularly if the weather's been dry and the tracks are firm underfoot.
