College Wood

College Wood is a proper woodland walk just outside Lampeter, the kind of place where you can actually hear yourself think. It's a working forest with established paths winding through mixed woodland - deciduous trees mostly, with decent canopy cover even in summer. You're looking at a couple of hours wandering here if you take it slowly, maybe less if you've got restless kids in tow.

The paths are well-maintained and easy going for families, though it can get muddy after rain so decent boots are worth packing. There's something straightforward about it - no visitor centre, no faffing about, just trees and fresh air. The forest floor is carpeted with ferns and moss in places, and you'll spot the occasional stream cutting through the deeper sections.

Walkers will get the most from College Wood. It's the sort of woodland that rewards a slower pace - proper birdwatching territory in spring, and genuinely peaceful on weekdays. Whether you're plotting a day out from one of the nearby caravan sites like Hafod Brynog or Cambrian Mountains Glamping, or using it as a half-day break from Lampeter itself, it works well as part of a wider Ceredigion ramble rather than a destination in itself.

Go early on weekends if you want solitude. The paths can get a bit churned up in peak season, but the woodland itself is large enough that you won't feel crowded. Free access and no time restrictions means you can duck in whenever suits - brilliant for last-minute exploring before heading back to your accommodation.
