Cony Garth Hill

The highest point in East Yorkshire, Cony Garth Hill rises to 128 metres and offers one of those rare, properly rewarding views across the Humber estuary. On a clear day you can see right across to Lincolnshire, which makes the modest climb worthwhile if you're staying anywhere near Hull.

It's not a dramatic peak - this is the East Riding, after all - but the walk up takes twenty minutes or so and the panorama at the top justifies the leg work. The landscape rolls gently away below you, agricultural rather than wild, but that's precisely what makes it feel like proper countryside so close to the city. The site itself is unfenced and free to access, which means you can turn up whenever suits.

This works best for walkers and families looking to stretch their legs without committing to a full-day hike. Kids won't find it boring because it's achievable - they can manage it without complaining. On weekends it gets a bit busier, but weekday mornings are genuinely quiet.

If you're based at any of the nearby parks - Cowden, Sea View Country Park, or WoodLake Campsite - Cony Garth Hill makes an excellent morning excursion before you head to other attractions. It's the kind of stop that takes two hours maximum but leaves you feeling like you've actually accomplished something. Worth a visit, especially if you're exploring the quieter side of Yorkshire.
