Copy Hill

The walk up Copy Hill rewards you with proper views across the Pennines - nothing flashy, just straightforward Yorkshire fell country that works well if you're based near Skipton. It's a modest peak rather than a dramatic one, but that's rather the point. You get the exercise, the fresh air, and genuine sightlines without the crowds you'd find on something like Pen-y-ghent.

This is walker territory, pure and simple. It's the sort of place where families with older kids will have a decent time, though younger ones might struggle with the gradient and the "are we there yet?" factor. Allow a couple of hours for the round trip, depending on your pace and how long you linger at the summit. The views aren't confined to one direction - you can pick out features across the surrounding moorland if you know what you're looking at.

Free to access, obviously. No gates, no fees, no nonsense. Nearest town is Skipton, which gives you somewhere proper to base yourself. If you're staying at Thornton Hall Country Park just under a mile away, this becomes a natural half-day option between other activities. Holgates Ribble Valley and Shay Gate Farm Campsite are within easy striking distance too - all good jumping-off points for local walking.

Worth doing? If you're in the area with walking boots already on, absolutely. Don't detour specifically for it, but it slots in nicely as part of a broader Pennine exploration. Weather matters more here than most peaks - thick cloud renders the summit rather pointless.
