Corner Coppice

The woodland floor here is thick with moss and fallen leaves - proper springy underfoot after rain. Corner Coppice is a small but genuine patch of mixed woodland just a few miles outside Bridgnorth, the sort of place locals know but visitors often miss entirely. You get oak, birch, and conifers standing close together, creating that dense forest quiet that makes you forget the Shropshire countryside is just beyond the treeline.

Walkers will get the most from this one. The paths wind through without being manicured or overly marked, which means you need a bit of map sense, but that's half the appeal. It's not a destination you'd build a whole day around - forty minutes to an hour is realistic - but as an add-on to a longer walk or a quick leg-stretch from Bridgnorth itself, it works well. Families with small children might find the uneven ground and lack of facilities a bit much, though older kids who actually enjoy trees rather than playground equipment will be fine.

The canopy closes in properly in summer, which makes it brilliant for cooling off on hot days. Winter's different - greyer, damper, but you see the structure of the wood better. If you're staying at Wheathill Touring Park nearby, it's an easy detour that doesn't feel like you're leaving somewhere better. Not showy, but honest woodland. That counts for something.
