Aston Hill

The walk up Aston Hill rewards you with proper views across the Shropshire countryside - the sort of vista that makes you understand why people move to this part of the world. It's not a dramatic scramble or anything, more a steady pull through fields and woodland from the Bridgnorth side, and the whole thing takes about an hour if you're not dawdling.

You get a real sense of the land here. The high point sits at just over 300 metres, which won't impress Alpine veterans, but in Shropshire terms it's a genuine vantage point. On a clear day you're looking across rolling farmland and ancient woodland - the sort of landscape that hasn't changed much in centuries. Families with older kids will find it manageable; younger ones might struggle with the climb and lose interest halfway through.

It's the kind of place walkers come for, not sightseers. There's no café, no visitor centre, no postcard shop. What you get is space and solitude and the genuine pleasure of reaching something by your own effort. Go early in the day if you want to avoid any crowds, though honestly you're unlikely to bump into many people anyway.

If you're based at Park Grange Holidays or Hay & Hedgerow Glamping just down the road, Aston Hill makes a proper morning or afternoon walk. It ties in nicely with exploring Bridgnorth itself - the town's worth a couple of hours if you fancy something less strenuous afterwards.
