Cowground Covert

Cowground Covert is a proper woodland walk just outside Bicester, the sort of place where you can actually hear yourself think. It's not vast - you're looking at a couple of hours maximum to work your way through the trees - but it delivers decent cover and some pleasant paths if you're after a break from the caravan site.

The forest itself is fairly dense in places, which means it stays cool even on warm days. Paths are reasonably well-trodden, though you'll want proper shoes rather than flip-flops. There's nothing dramatically scenic about it, but families with kids who need to burn off energy will find it does the job without fuss. Dog walkers rate it highly.

Frankly, it's not the sort of place to make a special journey for. But if you're staying at Weston Caravan and Campsite or Greenhill Leisure Park - both within a few miles - it's absolutely worth an afternoon visit. Glebe Leisure Touring Caravan Park is a bit further out but still manageable as a gentle walk option. Go midweek if you can; weekends draw more foot traffic than the woodland really warrants.

Local know-it-alls often skip it for bigger attractions, which means you'll have breathing space. No facilities to speak of, so take water. It's the sort of place that works best as part of a bigger day out in the Bicester area rather than a destination in itself.
