About Crail Beach
Walk along the seafront and you'll find the old harbour wall, a few decent spots to sit with a coffee, and enough character to keep you occupied for a couple of hours. There's a small beach for a paddle on a calm day, though the water's cold and the sand gets mixed with shale - it's not the Maldives. The real appeal is the village itself: narrow lanes, craft shops, decent fish and chips if you time it right, and views across to the Firth of Forth on a clear day.
Families with young kids will manage an hour comfortably before boredom sets in unless they're into exploring rock pools or sketching fishing boats. Older walkers and photographers get far more from it - the light here is genuinely good, especially late afternoon. The surrounding East Neuk coast has several decent walks linking villages together.
It's free to access, obviously. Anstruther's just a mile away and has more facilities. If you're caravan-based at Sauchope Links or Off the Track nearby, Crail makes a lovely morning wander - don't expect to build a day around it, but as part of a coastal village-hopping trip through Fife, it's well worth the detour.
