Cricket Ground Entrance

The cricket ground just east of Huntingdon is one of those places that works brilliantly if you're actually interested in the sport, and rather less so if you're not. It's a proper community venue where local clubs play during summer weekends, and there's something genuinely absorbing about watching a match unfold if you've got even a passing familiarity with the game.

What you get depends entirely on timing. Turn up during a match and you can settle on the boundary for an afternoon, grab a cup of tea from the pavilion, and watch players of varying standards do their thing. The ground itself is straightforward - well-maintained grass, a decent viewing area, nothing fancy. If there's no match on, it's essentially just a field, so there's little point making a special trip.

Families with cricket-mad kids will absolutely love this. Others might find an hour feels like four. The beauty of staying at one of the nearby caravan parks - Huntingdon Boathaven is barely a walk away, while Wyton Lakes and Quiet Waters are close enough for an easy drive - is that you can pop over on match days without it eating into your whole afternoon. Check ahead for fixtures because showing up on a blank weekend would be a waste.

Admission is usually free or a couple of quid, depending on the match importance. Best visited during the May to September season when the cricket calendar is busiest.
