Densome Wood

Walk into Densome Wood and you're immediately away from it all - proper forest quiet, the sort where you can hear your own footsteps on the path. It's a working woodland near Ringwood in Wiltshire, nothing fancy, but that's rather the point. Tall trees, undergrowth, the occasional clearing where light gets through. You can wander the main paths without needing a map, though locals clearly know the place well enough to have worn various unofficial routes through the bracken.

This is one for people who actually like walking rather than Instagram stops. Families with kids who'll chase around trees will get an hour or two out of it comfortably. The woodland floor is soft underfoot, and there's enough space to let them run without the worry of getting hopelessly lost. If you're into spotting birds or just want an hour of genuine quiet before heading back to the caravan, it delivers. No café, no facilities that I could see - just wood.

Staying at Summerlands Caravan Park, five or six miles away, gives you easy access without it being the main event. Use it to break up a day, especially if the weather's decent. Spring's good for bluebells if you time it right, though don't expect that to be signposted or managed - it's just there if you're lucky. Free to access from what I could tell, though there's no visitor centre to confirm it officially.
