Devil's Chimney

Standing roughly 50 feet tall on Leckhampton Hill, this dramatic limestone pillar looks like something a giant might have carved with a particularly sharp knife. The Devil's Chimney is what remains after centuries of quarrying stripped away the surrounding rock face, leaving this solitary stack as a testament to both human industry and geological stubbornness.

Walkers love the spot for good reason - the views across Cheltenham and the Severn Vale are properly spectacular on a clear day. Getting there involves a decent trek up Leckhampton Hill, but it's nothing too taxing for anyone reasonably fit. The path can get muddy after rain, mind you.

Kids seem to enjoy the slightly spooky name and the scrambling opportunities around the base, though parents should keep a close eye - it's not exactly Health and Safety approved climbing. History buffs will appreciate learning about the quarrying heritage that shaped this corner of the Cotswolds.

The walk takes about an hour return from the nearest car park, and it's free to visit whenever you fancy. Worth combining with nearby attractions if you're staying at one of the glamping sites around Cheltenham - Star Glamping and Big Skies are both within easy reach. Just don't expect facilities up there - bring water and dress for the weather.
