Two lakes connected by a narrow channel, with a name that sounds far more dramatic than the reality. Llyn y Ddraig - Dragon Lake - sits just outside Pwllheli on the Llŷn Peninsula, and it's the sort of place locals know about that tourists often miss entirely.

The walk around both lakes takes about an hour at a leisurely pace. It's flat, which matters because this corner of North Wales can throw weather at you without warning. The water itself is still and reflective on calm days, ringed by reeds and the occasional fishing enthusiast. The real value here is as a breather in a Llŷn Peninsula itinerary. You're close enough to Pwllheli's beaches and town centre that you could combine it with a morning in town, but the lakes themselves feel deliberately away from the rush. Access appears to be free and unrestricted - no visitor centre, no fees, just a proper local spot.
