Climbing Drosgl feels like proper hill walking without the savage commitment of Snowdon. This 756-metre peak sits above Llanfairfechan, offering cracking views across the Menai Strait to Anglesey on clear days. The ascent is steep enough to get your heart pumping but manageable for anyone with decent walking boots and a bit of determination.

Families with teenagers will find it a good challenge - though little ones might struggle with the rocky sections near the summit. The path can be muddy after rain, and the final scramble requires a head for heights. Allow three to four hours for the round trip from Llanfairfechan.

What makes Drosgl special is the lack of crowds. While everyone piles onto Pen y Fan or queues for Snowdon, you'll likely have this summit largely to yourself. The panoramic views take in Conwy Castle to the east and the entire Snowdonia range stretching south - well worth the effort on a decent day.

Staying at one of the holiday parks near Llanfairfechan puts you right at the base. Three Streams Glamping and Craiglwyd Hall Caravan Park are both within easy reach, making this an excellent addition to a North Wales walking holiday. Pack layers - the summit can be properly chilly even when it's warm at sea level.
