Eden Church

The church sits in a quiet corner of the Cornish countryside a short drive south of Bude, and it's worth a proper detour if you're staying anywhere in the area. Eden Church is a solid medieval affair - not flashy, not trying to be anything other than what it is: a working parish church that's been keeping watch over this corner of North Cornwall for centuries.

Inside you'll find the usual run of old stonework, decent windows, and that particular smell of old churches everywhere - cold stone mixed with centuries of candle wax. The real appeal here is the peace of the place. It's genuinely quiet. Walk in during the week and you might be the only visitor for hours.

Families with younger kids probably won't linger long - there's nothing interactive or dramatic about it. But anyone with an interest in medieval Cornwall, or simply wanting a moment away from the holiday park routine, will find this worthwhile. Give yourself 20 minutes, maybe 30 if you're the type to sit and read the gravestones.

It's free to visit, obviously. Opening hours weren't listed when I checked, so ring ahead if you're planning a specific trip. The location works brilliantly as a break between the Bude Camping and Caravanning Club Site and the fancier Pencuke Farm Holiday Cottages - roughly equidistant from both. Close enough for a quiet morning walk before heading to the beach.
