Treworgie Copse

A proper woodland walk just outside Bude, Treworgie Copse is the sort of place locals know about and tourists often miss. The forest floor here is thick with moss and fallen branches, and the canopy does that thing where it filters the light into something almost cathedral-like on a clear day.

It's woodland rather than parkland - no manicured paths or visitor facilities - so come prepared for actual walking. The trees are dense enough that it feels genuinely removed from the coast despite being minutes from Bude's bustle. Dog walkers love it. Families with older kids who don't mind getting a bit muddy will find it worth the trek. If your children expect playground equipment or visitor centres, give it a miss.

There's no admission charge and no fixed opening hours - it's just there, accessible more or less year-round, though winter makes it genuinely boggy. Allow 45 minutes to an hour if you're doing a proper loop, less if you're just poking about. It's free, which counts for something when you're staying at one of the nearby parks like Pencuke Farm - the five-star cottages and shepherd's huts there would pair well with a morning ramble through the trees.

Bude itself has the beaches and the coastal path to keep you busy, so Treworgie works as a change of pace rather than a main event. Real woodland, no frills, and genuinely atmospheric on quieter days.
