Eden Golf Club

Eden Golf Club sits just outside Carlisle and pulls in golfers from across the north west. It's an 18-hole course that plays to a decent length without being brutally difficult - the sort of place where mid-handicappers feel welcome rather than humiliated. The layout winds through parkland with enough water hazards to keep you honest, and the greens are well-maintained if occasionally firm.

You'll need to be a member or guest of a member to play here, which rules out the walk-in crowd. Green fees aren't cheap, but the course rewards good shots and punishes sloppy ones without being unnecessarily penal. Allow four hours minimum, more if your group is learning the layout.

Golfers staying at the nearby caravan parks - Green Acres is only three miles away, with Camelot Holiday Park at six miles - could easily fit a round in as part of a Cumbrian break. The Eden Valley area is proper golfing country, and this course sits well within reach of other decent tracks if you're the type to play multiple rounds.

Best visited when the course is dry. Winter months can be waterlogged, and summer crowds mean booking well ahead. This isn't a destination by itself unless you're genuinely keen on golf, but for caravan holidays in the region with players in the party, it's a solid option that won't eat your entire day.
