Eton Museum of Antiquities

The collection here is genuinely absorbing if you've got even a passing interest in classical antiquities. Housed within Eton College itself, the museum holds Greek and Roman pieces that the school has accumulated over centuries - pottery, sculpture, coins, the lot. You're walking through corridors lined with relics that span thousands of years, which does something to your sense of perspective.

It's not massive, and that's rather the point. You can take it in properly within an hour, maybe ninety minutes if you're reading every label. The pieces are well-displayed without being fussy about it. There's enough here to make history types genuinely happy, though families with younger children might find it a bit dry - it's a proper museum, not an interactive experience.

Access depends on college schedules, which matters. Ring ahead before you go rather than showing up hopefully. Windsor itself is just across the river, so you can combine this with a walk around the castle and town without too much effort.

If you're based at Queens Acre or Amerden, both within three miles, you can easily pop in as part of a day exploring the area. It's worth the short trip, especially if you're already in Windsor. Not a headline attraction, but the sort of place that rewards a quiet morning when you're not rushed.
