Evening Hill

The walk up Evening Hill from Poole is short but steep, and it rewards you properly. You're looking at maybe twenty minutes from the car park to the top, depending on your pace and how many times you stop to catch your breath on the way up.

Once you're there, the view across Poole Harbour unfolds in front of you - that's the real draw. On a clear day you can see right across to the Isle of Purbeck, and the whole sweep of water below shifts colour depending on the light. It's not dramatic in a grand, mountainous way, but it's genuinely lovely and feels like proper Dorset coastline. Worth getting your phone out for, or just sitting on a bench if you can't be bothered with photos.

It's free to visit, and the path is accessible enough for most walkers, though the slope is bit steep for very small children or anyone with mobility concerns. Go in the late afternoon when the light's turning golden and you'll have the place mostly to yourself.

Fits well into a Poole holiday - Haven Rockley Park is only four miles away, and the walk takes an hour maximum from car to view to car. You could combine it with a wander round Poole Quay afterwards, or head to Burnbake Forest Lodges if you want something quieter. Not a full day's activity, but a solid afternoon detour that doesn't require much planning.
