Two separate woodlands that sit a stone's throw apart near Diss, and honestly, they're worth lumping together for a single morning's walk rather than treating as standalone destinations. Fakenham Wood is the more accessible of the pair - a proper Norfolk broadleaf affair with decent paths that don't demand serious hiking boots. The canopy does what you want a wood to do: creates that cooling tunnel effect on warm days and holds onto moisture so everything smells right after rain.

Sapiston Great Grove, just across the way, feels slightly wilder. Fewer people know about it, which means you might actually hear birdsong instead of other visitors' podcast choices. Both woods are manageable two to three-hour explorations depending on pace and how much time you spend just sitting about.

Families with kids aged six-plus will get genuine mileage here - there's enough woodland scrambling to keep them engaged without feeling like a proper hike. Younger children might find the paths a bit samey. Walkers should know the terrain is relatively flat; this isn't a dramatic Suffolk expedition, more a proper tromp through decent woodland.
