The pull-in at Ferriby Foreshore isn't going to win any design awards, but that's rather the point. You park up, step out, and the Humber opens right in front of you - wide, working, and properly alive with shipping traffic. On a clear day you can see right across to Lincolnshire, and on a misty morning it's got an almost melancholic beauty to it.

It's a five-minute stop rather than a half-day outing, and frankly that's why it works. Walkers heading north from Beverley find themselves here almost by accident, and then they stay for a bit longer than expected because the light keeps changing on the water. The foreshore itself is muddy and best left to observation - you're here for the views, not to scramble about. A bench or two means you can sit properly and watch the barges and container ships doing their thing.

Families with restless kids might find it too static, but if you've got teenagers or you're the sort of person who enjoys watching working waterscapes, it's worth the minor detour. Free, obviously. No facilities to speak of, so bring coffee in a flask if you're planning to linger.

If you're based at Willow Pond Caravan Site nearby, it's an easy jaunt for a morning air-clear. Not essential, but the kind of spot that makes a park holiday feel less like you're just sitting in a field - there's actual stuff to look at.
