Fieldhouse Coppice

Walk into Fieldhouse Coppice and you're in proper woodland - the kind where you can actually breathe and hear yourself think. It's a small forest tucked near Uttoxeter, nothing fancy, just trees, paths, and the odd shaft of light breaking through the canopy. You'll spend a good hour wandering through here, maybe two if you're slow about it and actually stop to look at things.

This works best for anyone who wants to stretch their legs without the effort of a major hike. Families with younger kids will manage fine on the main paths - it's not rough ground. Walkers passing through the area should definitely call in, though if you're after dramatic vistas or wilderness, you'll be disappointed. It's a gentle wood, the sort of place you go to reset your head rather than test your fitness.

The real value here is proximity. If you're staying at Lane Tree Hideaways or Peake's Retreats - both cracking spots - you've got decent woodland on your doorstep rather than having to drive halfway across the county. It slots nicely into a broader Staffordshire break where you combine a few smaller attractions with time actually doing nothing much.

No idea about fees or specific opening hours, so ring ahead before you visit. Go when it's not raining if you can manage it - muddy paths aren't the end of the world, but they're not lovely either.
