Fishlake Central Viewing Screen

The viewing screen at Fishlake isn't much to look at from the car park - just a modern shelter with information boards - but step inside and you're staring at one of Wiltshire's most commanding vistas. The vale spreads out below you in proper fashion: patchwork fields, tree-lined valleys, the works. On a clear day you can pick out landmarks for miles, and the boards actually tell you what you're looking at, which beats squinting at the horizon and guessing.

It's the sort of stop that works brilliantly if you're doing a walking route through the area, or if you've got visitors who aren't up for anything strenuous. Park up, take five minutes, grab a few photos from the viewing platform. Kids won't spend long here unless you make a game of spotting things, but walkers heading toward Stockbridge or exploring the surrounding countryside will find it a useful waypoint and a genuine moment to catch your breath.

The structure itself is functional rather than beautiful - weathered timber and clear panels - which is fine by me. It gets the job done without fussing about it. There's no cafe, no facilities that I could see, so come prepared. Stockbridge is your nearest town if you need supplies or a proper break. If you're based at Green Hill Farm Holiday Village a few miles away, this is an easy afternoon excursion that doesn't demand much but delivers good views and a sense of standing somewhere that actually matters geographically.
