About Five Stones
What you get at the top is space, air, and that particular Pennine light that makes everything look sharper than it should. There's no cafe, no facilities, no visitor centre - just the exposed ridge and the five stone markers that give the place its name. Walkers will absolutely get the most from this. Families with older kids can manage it fine, but toddlers and anyone after an easy stroll should look elsewhere.
It's free, obviously - it's a fell. The best approach is from the north side of Buxton, and you'll want good boots given the moorland can be boggy. Spring through autumn is sensible; winter can be properly wild up there. If you're based at Peak Glamping Hideaway or one of the caravan sites around Buxton, this makes a cracking half-day venture. Pair it with a walk around Buxton's Victorian terraces on the descent and you've got a solid day done. The moors around here are excellent for that sort of thing - it's proper rambling country.
